explain.co.za is an independent news platform committed to delivering accessible and factual journalism to South African and global audiences. As part of our operations, we may publish and promote political advertisements in line with Meta’s advertising policies and country-specific regulations.
Who We Are
explain.co.za is funded through the proceeds of our commercial division, Explain Agency (explainagency.co.za). Explain Agency specialises in digital communications and storytelling for mission-driven organisations, including fintechs and non-profits, across Africa.
Previously, explain.co.za received donations from the following organisations to support our journalistic endeavours:
- South Africa Media Innovation Program (SAMIP)
- Media Development Investment Fund (MDIF)
- African Climate Foundation (ACF)
- Solutions Journalism Network (SJN)
- United States African Development Foundation (USADF)
We currently do not receive any donations and are financially sustained by revenue from our commercial division. Additionally, we have run limited advertising campaigns for local corporations in South Africa.
