Princess of Wales Kate Middleton has cancer. Middleton revealed this on Friday afternoon after weeks of speculation on her whereabouts

In the video, The Princess, 42,  said it has been an incredibly tough few months for their family but thanked her medical team. “In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London, and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous,” Kate said.

“The surgery was successful. However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.”

She said this came as a huge shock to her and said that she and her husband, Prince William, have been doing everything they can to process and manage her diagnosis privately. The Princess said it had taken time to explain the condition to her three children with William. “It has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them and to reassure them that I am going to be OK,” said Kate.

Her diagnosis is the latest in a slew of cancer diagnoses within the Royal Family. In February, Buckingham Palace revealed that King Charles had been diagnosed with cancer and was undergoing treatment. In January, Prince Andrew’s ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, revealed that she had been diagnosed with a malignant type of skin cancer.

While Kate hasn’t revealed what type of cancer she had been diagnosed with, she has wished anyone dealing with cancer well. “For anyone facing this disease, in whatever form, please do not lose faith or hope. You are not alone,” she said.
