Tyla has been making waves in the music world, and 2024 has been a year of major milestones for the 22-year-old star. From electrifying performances to global recognition, Tyla is redefining the music scene in 2024. Here’s how she’s cementing her place as a superstar.

Releasing hits and MTV EMA wins

Her emotional hit Tears, which dropped on 20 November,  as part of the Coke Studio 2024 program, has been one of the year’s biggest moments. The real highlight? Tyla performed it live for the first time in Johannesburg at an exclusive Coke Studio x Spotify event. The venue was buzzing, and the guest list was nothing short of glamorous, featuring the likes of fashion designer Rich Mnisi, Rachel Kolisi, and hip-hop legend Slikour. The energy was electric, and fans got into the vibe by rocking glitter tattoos inspired by her Tyger brand, giving everyone a taste of Tyla’s world before she even hit the stage.

She isn’t just taking over the charts—she’s winning big, too. At the MTV Europe Music Awards this year, she snagged three major awards: Best R&B, Best Afrobeats, and Best African Artist. This global recognition cements her as a force to be reckoned with in the music industry. Not only is she a standout artist, but her wins also highlight how African music is taking over the world, and Tyla is proudly leading.

A tour that’s taking South Africa by storm

She’s been bringing the heat on her South African tour, too. Fans gathered at Cape Town’s GrandWest on Thursday to catch her live at the Grand Arena. The excitement was palpable hours before she even took the stage. Young fans formed long queues to secure their spots in the arena, creating a buzz that hinted at the unforgettable night ahead. The scene resembled a Tyla-inspired fashion parade, as women and girls arrived decked out in animal prints, fur, bold hairstyles, and accessories reminiscent of the Water singer’s iconic style.

Her next stop is the SunBet Arena in Menlyn, Pretoria, on Saturday. Tickets are completely sold out, leaving some fans (like us!) disappointed at missing out.

Performing at Coachella

But that’s not all. Looking to 2025, Tyla has even bigger plans. She’s set to make her Coachella debut next year after having to cancel her performance earlier due to an injury. She’ll join (other) icons like Lady Gaga, Missy Elliott, and FKA Twigs on stage at the legendary festival. She shared her excitement on X, writing, “Had many opportunities to go but swore to myself that the first time I go to Coachella, imma be performing… and look now.”

Shining on Netflix

She’s on roll, even appearing in Sabrina Carpenter’s Netflix Christmas special, A Nonsense Christmas, which features duets with stars like Shania Twain, Kali Uchis, and Chappell Roan.

Tyla’s unstoppable talent, fierce ambition, and loyal global fanbase are making her a star in every sense of the word. Whether she’s performing on stage, recording new music, or starring in Netflix specials, there’s no doubt Tyla will keep shining bright in 2025 and beyond.
