South African singer Tyla made history when she won her first Grammy for Best African Performance at the 66th annual Grammy Awards, igniting a wave of celebration nationwide.
A diverse spread of South Africans have flooded social media with messages of support and admiration for Tyla’s achievement.
“[Tyla] we congratulate you and we celebrate with you. Your win affirms South Africa’s sustained success in various international fora,” said President Cyril Ramaphosa, thanking the singer for her authenticity and “flying the [South Africa] flag”.

Sport, Arts and Culture Minister, Zizi Kodwa said, “Tyla is a proud ambassador of South African arts and culture. I congratulate Tyla for a historic Grammy Award win, which comes before she has even released a full album.”
Davido, who was nominated in the same category as Tyla for his song ‘Unavailable’, featuring Musa Keys, a fellow South African artist and producer, also left his congratulations and support.
“Congratulations on your win [Tyla]! Big One for africa! Keep soaring!,” said the Nigerian artist.
Adding to the felicitations, Springboks captain Siya Kolisi said, “Congrats to [Tyla] and her team, and congrats to all South Africans.”
Other South African celebrities were quick to share their praises online.
Media personality and presenter Minnie Dlamini shared on her Instagram, “Congratulations, baby girl. We are beaming with pride”.
South African rapper Boity, who attended the 66th annual Grammy Awards, posted on her social media, “Congratulations, Tyla…This is only the beginning!”
Tyla’s Grammy win is not only a personal triumph but also a reminder of South Africa’s rich musical and cultural talent.
