Ah, Awards shows. These days, they can be hit or miss. But the 75th Emmy Awards were surprisingly good, with people online praising how much better they were than the disaster we witnessed last week at The Golden Globes.

The Awards, held at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, California, were hosted by actor Anthony Anderson and saw Succession and The Bear winning big. Succession was nominated for 27 awards, winning six.

Originally meant to be held in September last year, the awards were postponed due to the lengthy Hollywood writers’ strike, during which writers and actors downed tools in protest of the changes in the industry caused by streaming and its effect on residuals, as well as other issues like AI. It marked the first time actors had initiated a labour dispute in the U.S. since the 1980 actors’ strike and the first time that actors and writers had walked out simultaneously since 1960.

Succession emerged as the winner of the Outstanding Drama Series, securing its place as a powerhouse in the television landscape. Sarah Snook’s exceptional performance on the show earned her the title of Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, prevailing over a strong field that included Bella Ramsey, Elisabeth Moss, Keri Russell, Melanie Lynskey, and Sharon Horgan. Kieran Culkin took home the lead actor award. Matthew Macfadyen’s exceptional portrayal secured him the title of Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.

The Bear claimed victory in the Outstanding Comedy Series category, and two of its stars, Ayo Edebiri and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, won the hearts of viewers with their roles, earning her the title of Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series and him the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series award. Lead actor Jeremy Allen White (yes, him of Calvin Klein fame 🤤) secured the Outstanding Lead Actor award in a comedy series, besting heavy hitters like Bill Hader, Jason Segel, Jason Sudeikis, and Martin Short.

Quinta Brunson’s outstanding performance as Janine in Abbott Elementary earned her the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series award.

The legendary Sir Elton John became only the 19th to become an Egot after winning his first Emmy for his Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium special. An Egot is a person who has won Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony awards. Notable Egots include Whoopi Goldberg, Tim Rice and Jennifer Hudson.😍

Our homeboy Trevor Noah and his Daily Talk With Trevor Noah team received the Outstanding Talk Series Emmy. 💃 For a complete list of the winners, see here.

We’re glad to see television stars and writers rewarded for all their great work, bringing us entertainment. Here’s hoping that the Oscars are just as good!
